Playing in its third state title game in four years, the St. George’s Independent School varsity boys’ basketball squad captured its first TSSAA Division II-A state championship March 6 with a 56-41 victory over the University School of Nashville. Tournament MVP Asa Toney and teammate Alec Mulvihill each finished with a team-high 17 points in the win and Toney added six assists. Cooper Green and Jonathan Coleman each added nine points and were selected to the All-Tournament Team along with Mulvihill. Team      members are (front, from left) Green, Mulvihill, Matthew Sims, Bryan Smith, John Williams, (back) trainer Eric Isom, assistant coach Cole Hoppe, Coleman, Josh Klesges,      Bradford Toney, Robert Heard, Asa Toney, Hunter Kraus, Clay Eber, Aston Keaton and head coach Jeff Ruffin.

Collierville High School’s Tucker Tubbs wipes out a Briarcrest Christian School player as he slides into second during a preseason contest Friday. The Saints and Dragons finished in a 6-6 tie. CHS will open its season Monday in Germantown against Millington as part of the Lewis Harris Memorial Tournament. Games against Keys (Okla.) in Millington and Tahlequah (Okla.) in Bartlett will follow Tuesday and Wednesday. The tournament will    conclude March 20.

overtime. This is the second championship of the season 
for Collierville, which has 
compiled a 34-20 record 
and has played in four
